IS PINTEREST CONSIDERED SOCIAL MEDIA?

Pinterest is an app that allows us to save and virtually share images and videos to other people. Even though it is an app where people can add, save and share pictures and videos and can also share their thoughts it is not considered as social network. The co-founder of the application Ben Silbermann told that “I think that’s a very different thing than a social network. The objectives of the two are different. On a social network, you upload photos for other people to like. Pinterest, on the other hand, is self-serving.” It is considered that social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat etc. are where we post pictures, share stories and connect with people but Pinterest is where we find inspiration and try to create the best versions of ourselves. It may have some social features like liking on the pin but it is now removed. It has a feature ‘ tried it ‘ which is also considered not social because it is a feature where you’ll see the most genuine feedback from which other people can decide if they want to try it or just let it go. Pinning could be considered as a social feature but in Pinterest the pinners don’t particularly care if anyone follows them, saves their Pins, or clicks to visit a website. They are only searching for ideas, inspiration or products.
